Utilities Worker I Allegany County Department of Public Works – Utilities Division
SUMMARY: This is entry level work in the water/wastewater field under the general supervision of the Area Supervisor. An employee in this class performs general construction and utility pipeline and water treatment plant work including driving a dump truck and occasionally operating a water/wastewater treatment plant. Employee is evaluated by observation and on the spot corrections is made.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment. Courses for completion of Water/Wastewater Certification desirable. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Driver’s License. Class B CDL preferred. Eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy. Must be able to pass the prescribed physical for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Introductory knowledge of the basics of the operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant including procedures used in performing laboratory tests. Working knowledge of: the operation of a dump truck and the safety and road rules associated with the use of the same; and occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with this line of work. Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; observe and follow all safety rules and precautions; and operate equipment necessary for the correct performance of the job. SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a Classified position at Grade 102 with a salary range of $33,540-$63,726 and a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
