The Stationary Engineer Operator maintains shifts with total responsibility for the operation of the assigned Central Heating Plant equipment including the co-generation of electricity.
This position is considered essential. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.

The Stationary Engineer Operator maintains shifts with total responsibility for the operation of the assigned Central Heating Plant equipment including the co-generation of electricity.

Job Qualifications and Competencies:
- High School/GED - trade school preferred
- Three years' experience operating a high pressure steam heating and power plant
- Stationary Operating Engineer's License for the City of Providence
- Rhode Island Journeyworker Pipefitter's License preferred
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required
- Experience with CMMS preferred
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Thorough knowledge of steam/heating and power plant operations, including operation of high temperature hot water distribution systems.
- High sense of responsibility and attention to detail
- Must be able to follow standard procedures
- Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
- Ability to work rotating shifts, loud environments where ear protection is required.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs for the duration of the work period.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet.
- Ability to work without restrictions for twelve hour shift.
- Brown's Office of Risk Management requires the use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and/or Respirators as a precautionary safety measure in areas deemed to be an exposure hazard to employees. Candidates must be able to successfully pass a physical and pulmonary function test at a clinic, attend a training class and be able to be fitted with a Respirator. No person can be certified to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus/Respirator who has a beard.
