Chief Development Officer

Family Promise is seeking a Chief Development Officer ("CDO") who will provide the leadership, strategy, and management for all components of the organization's fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts. They will develop and lead a team to execute the strategy for increasing and diversifying the donor bases and revenue streams. This role will report to the CEO and will be part of the organization's leadership team.
Primary responsibilities of this role:
Fundraising / Donor Stewardship
Work with CEO and leadership team to facilitate short- and long-term strategic plans for fundraising and revenue growth and develop actionable strategies for meeting and exceeding those goals through grants, sponsorships, major donor cultivation, individual
gifts, fundraising events, and other revenue sources.
Review the current fundraising support infrastructure to ensure that the organization can respond quickly, effectively, creatively, and contextually to long-term financial requirements and short-term operating needs.
Identify new and potentially substantial revenue streams as part of the expansion of the organization's fundraising efforts.
Track revenue and fundraising trends, using the data to predict future opportunities for expansion efforts and avoid any downtrends in areas of giving.
Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in alignment with the organization's core values, vision, and mission.
Manage the operations of the development function efficiently and oversee development activities in coordination with staff.
Create and manage, with CEO and leadership team, the annual revenue budget and the department's annual expense budget.
Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the fund development program and all associated donor data.
Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the code of ethics for fundraising professionals.
Marketing / Communications
Manage strategies to ensure consistency throughout the organization in communications, marketing, and public relations; develop and implement all organizational branding and marketing efforts.
Required Skills/ Education
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred in nonprofit management, public administration, community development, or public policy.
CFRE or similar accreditation a plus.
Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in fundraising.
Experience working with a federated organization (with affiliate field organizations) a plus.
Demonstrated success in developing a strong major gifts program and in personally securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Demonstrated competency in marketing, communications, and PR.
Strong experience in establishing a donor stewardship program with acquisition and retention strategies expected.
Capital campaign experience desired.
Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals and stakeholders inside and outside of the organization. This includes public speaking skills for speeches at fundraising events, presentations to donors on recent
achievements, and meetings with members of the board.
Analytical thinking and ability to analyze data.
Demonstrated ability to manage professional staff and a department budget.
Demonstrated willingness to make timely decisions and exhibit sound and accurate judgement.
Self-directed, independent individual able to set and meet own deadlines and schedules without a lack in quality and timeliness.
Comfortable working with faith-based organizations and partners.
Ability to manage multiple projects at once with no decline in quality control.
Ability to work independently and effectively within a team including colleagues, business partners, donors, stakeholders, and volunteers.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to see full scope of problem/project to diagnose core issues then generate, evaluate, and implement solutions.
Location:
Work may be flexible; on site in Summit, NJ, office, hybrid, or primarily remote. Travel will be required; flexibility required to work non-traditional business hours as required for donor meetings and events, including some weekends and evenings. Time will be divided between office meetings with staff within the organization and meetings with donors and stakeholders.
Compensation:
Mid-range salary for the position is $135,000.
