General Assignment/Enterprise Reporter
The Des Moines Register/desmoinesregister.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, an experienced, versatile reporter who can produce smart, fast general assignment work.
This reporter will be the Register’s go-to reporter for quick-turn enterprise that bounces off the news. Subjects will run the gamut from profiles of people making a difference to communities grappling with the aftermath of disasters to elevations of voices from our diverse neighborhoods.
Assignments will focus on the Des Moines metro, but this reporter will travel across Iowa or beyond for the right story. You’re the right person for the job if you would enjoy pairing with a beat reporter to produce one- or two-day enterprise or being part of a team of reporters covering major breaking news.
The successful applicant will have a deep curiosity about a variety of subjects, a willingness to learn quickly and a deft writing touch that can put readers inside the story. We’re looking for someone who has a knack for persuading sources, from crime victims to officials in Iowa’s 99 counties, to share their stories.
This reporter will relish the opportunity to quickly become an expert in many subjects and relay clear, accurate, insightful information to our readers.
This reporter should be ready to use social and multimedia to share the news and be willing to experiment and innovate with photos, video and nontraditional story forms to reach audiences. We expect anyone who works with us to be constantly improving their skills. We offer a robust internal and Gannett-wide training program.
This reporter will work with experienced editors and occasionally be partnered with other veteran reporters on projects.
