Job Summary
This is an emergency essential position. The work schedule is a rotating 8-hour shift during the heating season.
The Utility Plant Helper position is unskilled work assisting in the operation of boilers and related equipment.
An employee in this position performs routine work to assist with general boiler plant operations. Work involves cleaning boilers and plant areas; and assisting utility plant operators in lubricating, adjusting, assisting UPO's with PM efforts in the off season (summer) and repairing boilers and related equipment.
Work may require maintaining simple records.
Work is assigned and closely reviewed for conformance with instructions and safe operations by the Utility Plant Manager or the shift UPO2 responsible for the Plant Operation of that shift. The Utility Plant Helper position assists with the operation, maintenance and repairs of steam generating boilers and auxiliary equipment. The Utility Plant Helper will also assist with the maintenance of the utility's infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications
ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- One year of manual labor work and/or working in a maintenance/trades setting
- Basic Mechanical Aptitude
- Stable Employment History of 2 Full Years
- 1+ Years' Experience working in a Central Heat Plant environment.
- 1+ Years' Experience working with Boilers and related equipment.
- 1+ Years' Experience working with steam distribution systems.
- 1+ Years' Experience working with water distribution systems
