The Lincoln Journal Star is seeking an Education Reporter to cover local K-12 public and private schools in Lincoln and the surrounding metro area. Local education is important to our readers, and this wide-ranging beat covers breaking news, academic performance, funding, budgets and financials, management and personnel, human-interest stories, school boards and more. We are seeking someone with the ability to report daily, feature, and enterprise stories for print, digital and online publications to inform and grow our readership.
The Lincoln metro area's population is approximately 400,000, and provides diverse cultural, entertainment and recreational opportunities. This position is based out of our new Journal Star office, which features modern workstations, a state-of-the-art video studio and comfortable collaborative spaces in the up and coming Telegraph District. Our office sits on one of state's best-interconnected bike trails and the city is full of craft breweries, coffee shops and small, independent restaurants. Pinnacle Bank Arena, home to NU's two basketball teams and dozens of major concerts, anchors the downtown Haymarket entertainment district, which also features a weekly Farmer's Market.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field in addition to experience through internships or on the job. The ability to identify and report issues that are most important to our readers and experience with social media and mobile reporting skills are a must. New graduates are welcome to apply.
