General Description: The Director for the Office of Wellness and Mental Health creates, implements, and assesses, evidence-based educational programming on wellness, mental health education, programming, and prevention strategies to NOVA students.
Duties and Tasks:
Duties and Tasks:
- Works closely with Academic Deans, Deans of Student Success, Diversity Equity & Inclusion Office, and Enrollment Management and Student Success leadership to implement intervention plans for identified students.
- Acts as the primary liaison for students with community mental health agencies.
- Develops campus specific mental health resources for NOVA students.
- Provides outreach/educational seminars to NOVA students.
KSAs:
- Knowledge of current best practices in student mental health and behavior intervention and services.
- Budget development and management.
- Documented counseling skills and experience.
- Understanding of student services theory/practice as it pertains to community college students.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to create and lead teams.
- Demonstrated ability to create and manage projects.
- Understanding of data collection and interpretation.
- Ability to write clear and coherent project reports and grant applications.
- Clear understanding of federal and state law relating to college safety, including reporting requirements.
- Ability to create and manage partnerships with community-based organizations to deliver services to students.
- Ability to design and manage the delivery of professional development programs for faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects that involve complex health issues.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with college faculty and staff.
- Be skilled in the area of cultural sensitivity in the college setting.
- Possess leadership skills as well as work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of relevant laws pertaining to student health and wellness, to include Clery, FERPA, Title IX, and violence prevention.
- Understand threat/risk assessment strategies and principles.
- Knowledge of threat assessment and/or risk assessment principles, laws, and strategies.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution in social work, counseling, counseling psychology or in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention and/or in working with severe psychopathology.
- Demonstrated experience and/or familiarity with community mental health agencies.
- Demonstrated experience in related or similar resource development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed professional in social work or psychology/counseling.
- At least 5 years of experience in case management.
- Experience with behavioral intervention team operations; solution-focused approach to student care.
- Demonstrated experience working with college students, including diverse and/or underrepresented college student populations.
- Threat/Risk assessment experience.
- Experience with Community Service Boards and community providers.
