Business and Resource Sharing Services Manager
Job Summary
This is a high-volume, community-engaged position facilitating electronic resource acquisitions for libraries. SCELC's Business and Resource Sharing Manager works as a member of the SCELC Business Services (Biz Serv) Team to develop and maintain productive relationships with libraries and vendors, contribute to workflow and system improvements, and engage in the SCELC community and broader consortial community. Examining issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility will shape all aspects of how the Business and Resource Sharing Manager approaches work with the SCELC and wider community.
Primary Responsibilities in supporting SCELC's core strategic initiative of building collections and sharing resources across SCELC libraries:
E-Resource Acquisitions
- Manages assigned portfolio of 30+ e-resources vendors to provide libraries with information on resources and acquisition options.
- Works with libraries and negotiates with vendors to process price quote, order, and cancellation requests from libraries.
- Maintains renewals for library e-resource subscriptions, including tracking term dates, negotiating renewal pricing, and collaborating with Biz Serv team members to oversee SCELC's annual Master Renewal period.
- Ensures price information is up-to-date by updating price models in SCELC's ConsortiaManager subscription system.
- Work with vendors and libraries to resolve access issues for e-resource acquisitions licensed through SCELC.
- Processes vendor invoices for payment. Works with vendors to resolve multiple types of invoice discrepancies.
- In cooperation with vendors, creates and maintains product information.
Collaborative Contributions
- Works closely with the Chief Operating Officer in managing SCELC's primary business and subscription system (ConsortiaManager), including offering input on database maintenance and efficiencies in system workflows. Communicates with ConsortiaManager to submit system bugs, report requests, and development ideas.
- Contributes actively to the organization through feedback and suggestions regarding the workflow, procedures, and systems used at SCELC. Documents and shares procedures, helping to develop a SCELC-wide procedure manual.
- Contributes to efforts to advance DEI initiatives within SCELC and in outreach services to the SCELC community.
Additional responsibilities to establish and maintain SCELC outreach activities to the broader information community:
- Works to support resource sharing and discovery efforts by serving as Liaison to the Resource Sharing Advisory Committee and contributing to related programs. Works collaboratively with the Shared Print Advisory Committee in support of resource sharing and discovery efforts. Liaison duties include
- Ensure alignment between committee goals and SCELC Strategic Plan
- Communicate regularly with Chair(s) & Executive Director to support agenda preparation and meeting follow up
- Work with Committee chair(s) to support annual and ongoing committee planning
- Oversees delivery and program evaluation of resource sharing implementations
- Attend all committee meetings and bi-monthly Council of Committee Chair meetings
- Participates in the ConsortiaManager user community via coordinated cross-training, assisting newcomer consortia users, and attending ConsortiaManager group meetings.
- In collaboration with SCELC and host institution staff, provides support for SCELC events including annual SCELCapalooza.
- Engages with the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) community and attends ICOLC meetings periodically.
- Participates in the assessment of programs and services through a DEI lens, such as the expansion of resource sharing to minority-serving institutions and taking advantage of subsidy opportunities.
SCELC's current work environment is primarily remote, with 60-95% of employee work performed virtual, with some flexibility at the employer's discretion. SCELC has a 40-hour work week. Employees accrue 20 days of vacation per year and 12 days of sick leave.
Salary is in the range of $60,000 to $90,000 depending on experience (Manager I-II). SCELC's current benefits package includes multiple options for individual medical plans, with generous employee-sponsored premiums for employees and their dependents. Currently dental and vision plans are also provided, along with life insurance and long-term disability insurance. SCELC contributes to the retirement plan (403b) at 8% of an employee's salary per annum.

Job Requirements
- Competency to work with and understand data, in different formats, with great accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of electronic resource licensing and pricing models
- Knowledge of general accounts receivable and payable processes.
- Ability to work independently and organize one's own activities without close supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially, following guidelines and instructions.
- Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned, as short- and long-term needs arise.
- Skill in learning and applying various services such as ConsortiaManager, Salesforce, Google programs, Slack, bill.com, and Microsoft suite.
- Ability to constantly operate office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, computer, and computer printer.
- Ability to travel to the SCELC offices in North Hollywood, CA on a regular basis as well as occasional vendor and library events throughout the U.S.
Qualifications and Specifications
- Required: Proven organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Required: Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Required: Bachelor's degree
- Preferred: ALA-accredited master's degree
- Preferred: Experience with helpdesk or account management software
- Preferred: Experience with macros and automating workflows
