Under the supervision of the Director, Talent Management, delivers and provides support for professional development programs on campus. Provides assistance with employee relations and Title IX investigations.
Department: Human Resources
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in Human Resources or related field. Graduate education may substitute for experience requirement. Preferred qualifications include possession of two or more years of experience in professional development; experience in higher education; and HR certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- General knowledge of employee development theory and practices.
- Basic understanding of human resources procedures, practices, policies and laws.
- Ability to organize workflow and coordinate projects within the office and with other departments across campus.
- Ability to interpret policy and procedures established within Human Resources.
- Familiarity with Title IX regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; must be insurable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Thorough understanding of University policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Skill in preparing and presenting employee training programs and materials.
- Ability to tactfully manage sensitive and confidential matters.
- Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with employees, departments and vendors.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work. Talking, hearing, keyboarding, repetitive motions of the wrists and fingers. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Operating a motor vehicle is required.
Essential Functions:
- Deliver New Employee Orientation and First Day Welcome Programs.
- Participate in the design and delivery of required/compliance/policy training (i.e. harassment, safety, new/upgraded systems, etc.).
- Assist in conducting formal and informal professional development needs assessments.
- Under supervision, conduct employee relations investigations, coaching, and counseling.
- Support and assist employees in developing career progression plans.
- Review and advise as appropriate on employee disciplinary actions to ensure compliance with established procedures and policies.
- Provide assistance as appropriate in the resolution of individual workplace disputes; facilitates mediation for conflict management and problem-solving dialogues.
- Advise both employees and management regarding employee relations policies, procedures and documentation.
- Assist in conducting Title IX investigations.
- Oversee matters related to Unemployment communications, records, and hearings.
- Use appropriate communication vehicles to promote training and other events.
- Assist with employee communication processes such as opinion surveys and focus groups.
- Follow up with new hires after 90 and 180 days to discuss, evaluate and improve the onboarding process; take note of and work with managers who need assistance with this responsibility.
- Conduct exit interviews with faculty and staff.
- Provide reports of training activity related to performance review and upon request.
- Assist with recognition activities such as awards and the Service Anniversary celebration.
