Job Description:


Empire State University invites applications for an Associate Provost of Academic Effectiveness. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join a recently reorganized academic leadership team poised to embrace the energy of a new president, a new strategic plan, and pending ascendance to university status to advance SUNY Empire's mission and vision of being a leader in accessible, flexible, and learner centered education in New York State, nationally, and internationally. This is a critical leadership position responsible for supporting the development of academic strategy, new program development, prior learning assessment, implementation of strategic initiatives, institutional accreditation, and the efficient and effect operations of academic systems and processes. The successful candidate will directly oversee the offices of prior learning, mentor services, decision support (i.e., institutional research), the registrar's office, and the office of program planning and development.

The AP of Academic Effectiveness will be strategic, collaborative, and data-driven with the organizational and interpersonal skills to lead a diverse team of professionals across the State of New York.

Job responsibilities will include:
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology Services and other constituents, a strategic vision for academic IT systems;
  • Provide leadership in driving the continued evolution of the institution's prior learning assessment process;
  • Spearhead Academic Affairs efforts to achieve a comprehensive data-informed continuous improvement process across all academic programs and operations;
  • Collaborate with institutional and academic affairs leadership and offices to develop, implement, track, and evaluate academic strategic initiatives;
  • Ensure SUNY Empire's success in maintaining good standing with all institutional accreditations/recognitions (e.g., MSCHE & NC-SARA);
  • Supervision of professional staff with responsibilities for adjunct coordination (hiring and payroll) and mentor services.

Requirements:


Required Qualifications:
  • A terminal degree from an accredited U.S. Institution or comparable non-U.S. institution;
  • 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience in higher education in an area relevant to the position's scope of responsibility;
  • Experience with academic IT systems;
  • Experience managing major division- or institution-wide projects;
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, including working with individuals (e.g., colleagues and students alike) from diverse backgrounds;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with program assessment and accreditation;
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic plan development, implementation, and progress tracking;
  • Knowledge of the higher education environment, especially institutions that are open access and serve working learners;
  • Knowledge of prior learning assessment processes;
  • A proven track record of implementing major initiatives in a large, distributed organization on time, within scope, and on budget;
  • Experience with division or department budgeting and planning.
Special Information:
  • This position requires a physical presence in Saratoga Springs, NY;
  • Occasional travel to SUNY Empire locations and events may be required;
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
