Job Description
Position Summary:
Assist the director in building and sustaining the Office of Multicultural Student Services for prospective and current UMSL students. To maintain and formulate collaborative relationships with the UM-St Louis campus and St. Louis community. To assist with the daily management of the Office of Multicultural Student Services, including supervising staff, monitoring student and parent programs, data collection and budget management.
- Provide collaborative leadership to department staff to ensure responsiveness, transparency and consistency
- Ensures daily operations are in compliance with university, local, state and federal policies and regulations
- Provide collaborative leadership in meeting established department benchmarks to meet strategic goals
- Explains policies and procedures to advise and assist others and/or team
- Uses judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and/or operational problems
- Work collaboratively across campus and within the St Louis community to ensure a smooth transition to college for all students and parents
- Assist with the supervision of data collection and analysis of program data for state and foundation partner reports; monitor program effectiveness and identify and implement potential strategies for program enhancement.
- Ensure consistent communication of program data to the Director as requested to facilitate program evaluation processes and the production of internal and external evaluation reports as needed to increase department effectiveness.
- Assist in the implementation and coordination of various program components on campus and within the St Louis community
- Assist with development of office publications explaining the services and programs of the office; coordinate the dissemination of information to all constituents
- Assist with development and promotion of favorable relations with UMSL students, faculty and staff.
- Consult with prospective and current program participants in the Office of Multicultural Student Services and provide information regarding campus resources, program offerings, and academic planning.
- Coordinate and implement retention and recruitment initiatives and activities for MSS. This includes academic support programming and event planning for prospective students and current students, designing and executing various workshop, programs and information sessions for students and prospects.
- Must be able to work successfully and collaboratively with multiple parties to achieve program initiatives and effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Shift
Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Salary
Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $48,900 - $53,550 Annually
Grade: GGS-010
University Title: Assistant Director Student Support Services
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's preferred - preferably in counseling, higher education, or related field
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population
- Effective written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience working with students who are at risk
