Education
Preferred Associate's Degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent experience in accounting or related role preferred.
Qualifications
Required skills and experience:
- Experience interpreting and analyzing financial policy and procedure
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize tasks/projects in a fast- paced environment
- Ability to provide a positive customer experience and communicate with clarity and precision * Proficiency with computer software/applications, automated data analysis, and data entry techniques
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and have creative problem-solving skills
Preferred knowledge, skills, and experiences:
- Knowledge of University, State, Federal, and/or Non-federal rules and regulations
- Familiarity with UW-Madison systems such as WISER, ShopUW+, and e-Reimbursement
- Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is strongly preferred
Job Summary
The Financial Operations Specialist position at Student Affairs will provide financial management and transaction processing. This position is the main resource for Departmental activities relating to reimbursements, payments, purchasing, and tracking of all expenses. The position serves as the first point of contact for Department staff for advice, direction, training, and problem resolution relating to financial transactions and processes.
Responsibilities
Performs general accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions.
- 25% Organizes, prepares, and updates basic financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
- 10% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements basic solutions as needed
- 20% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
- 20% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
- 25% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments

A hybrid schedule will be established for this position upon supervisor and Student Affairs division approval, where some work may be required to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location, and some work may be performed remotely at an offsite, non-campus work location. The successful candidate for this position is expected to be onsite for the first 3-6 months until being fully onboarded and trained. This position includes workplace flexibility.
Salary
Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months), Depending on Qualifications.
This position expected starting salary is $50,000 up to $57,000 for experienced candidates; actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
