Summary
VCU's Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Trades Specialist-Plumber in Facilities Operations.
The Trades Specialist performs maintenance and repair work in a University Zone using skills and experience gained in the plumbing trade to ensure the efficient operation of the buildings. The Trades Specialist responds under direction or independently to service work orders that address repairs and equipment failures related to plumbing that involve building equipment and systems such as circulating pumps, DI systems, steam converters, heating and chilled water lines, process water lines, regulating valves, and plumbing fixtures of all types; uses assorted fittings, gaskets, couplings, traps, valves, and soldering techniques; and provides quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime.

Minimum Hiring Standards
- Knowledge of residential and commercial plumbing systems
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers
- Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment
- Valid State of Virginia Driver's License
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Must have State of Virginia Plumbing Journeyman's License and Backflow prevention certification or the ability to have license and certification, and obtain within two years of employment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Working knowledge of other trades
- State of Virginia Driver's License
